Original 19th-century oil painting by German artist Wilhelm Pistor (1832–1880), known for his finely detailed and sentimental genre scenes of bourgeois family life. Signed lower right.
The painting depicts a tender Victorian interior: a young child, exhausted after play, rests beside a loyal St. Bernard dog, while the parents quietly observe from behind a rich red curtain. The scene is richly detailed, with luxurious furnishings, finely painted textiles, and a vase of peacock feathers symbolising prosperity.
Oil on canvas, presented in a vintage wooden frame with gilt inner trim. The work remains in very good original condition for its age, with vibrant colours and well-preserved paint surface.
