The box has a dark blue textured exterior with gilt border decoration, a cream silk-lined lid and a deep blue velvet fitted base. A small brass-coloured retaining hook is positioned near the upper centre of the velvet interior, indicating that the case was made to secure a pendant, brooch, medal or similar piece of jewellery.
