Antique WMF Silver Plated Lobster Picks Pair, Art Nouveau Jugendstil Seafood Forks c1900
Antique pair of WMF silver-plated lobster picks, Germany, circa 1900.
This pair was made by WMF — Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik — and dates to the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil period. Each piece has a two-sided decorative design: pierced ginkgo leaf openwork on one side and detailed lobster relief decoration on the reverse.
The long narrow form was designed for seafood use, including lobster, crab and shellfish. The pieces are functional table utensils, but also strong examples of early 20th-century German Jugendstil metalwork.
The design combines naturalistic seafood decoration with stylised botanical openwork, typical of the Art Nouveau period.
